Role Overview

This role sits at the intersection of technical accounting, systems architecture and operating‑model transformation. The Revenue Accounting Manager is a senior controllership role with accountability for the Lead‑to‑Cash (L2C) lifecycle; revenue recognition, margin and cash outcomes.

The role goes beyond traditional revenue accounting ownership. It is accountable for designing and scaling a modern, system‑enabled revenue and cash process, underpinned by strong controls, automation and increasing use of AI, while fundamentally transforming team capability and ways of working.

This position will suit candidates from Big 4 audit or accounting advisory, or Tier‑1 SaaS environments, who are motivated by building future‑state finance models, not maintaining legacy processes.

Core Accountabilities:

Design Authority for Revenue & Lead‑to‑Cash

  • Act as finance design authority for revenue accounting and Lead‑to‑Cash, ensuring accounting outcomes are intentionally designed rather than remediated downstream

  • Translate complex commercial models into codified, system‑enforced accounting logic aligned with FRS / IFRS 15

  • Ensure revenue, billing and cash flows are fully reconcilable and explainable end‑to‑end, supporting audit reliance and management decision‑making

End‑to‑End Lead‑to‑Cash Ownership

  • Own the finance view of the Lead‑to‑Cash process across:

    • Billing and invoicing logic

    • Revenue recognition

    • Deferred balances, AR and cash conversion

  • Partner cross‑functionally with Sales Ops, Deal Desk, Legal, Billing, Credit Control, FP&A and Systems to eliminate leakage, rework and manual intervention

  • Ensure that revenue, margin and cash outcomes are aligned by design, not reconciled by exception

Automation, AI & Scalable Architecture

  • Lead the evolution toward an exception‑based, low‑touch operating model, shifting the team from transaction processing to analytical and judgement‑based activities

  • Sponsor and implement:

    • Rules‑based automation

    • Automated reconciliations and variance analytics

  • Reduce spreadsheet dependency in favour of robust system architecture with clear data governance and audit trails

  • Act as primary finance partner to Systems and Data teams on revenue and cash architecture

Month‑End Close & Predictability

  • Own revenue, CoS and L2C close outcomes with a focus on:

    • Predictability

    • Early issue identification

    • Minimal post‑close adjustment

  • Design close processes that support front‑loaded review and reliance, consistent with audit expectations

  • Ensure close outputs are insight‑driven and forward‑looking, not reconciliation‑led

Controls, Audit & Governance

  • Embed preventative, system‑based controls across revenue, billing and cash

  • Act as primary audit lead for revenue and Lead‑to‑Cash, articulating how:

    • Automation increases control strength

    • System reliance reduces substantive testing

  • Lead preparation of accounting position papers, audit responses and technical documentation

  • Ensure policies and procedures reflect current‑state systems and target‑state intent, not legacy workarounds

Team Transformation & Capability Uplift

  • Lead a step‑change transformation of the revenue accounting team, evolving:

    • Skills (systems, data, commercial understanding)

    • Mindset (ownership, design thinking, continuous improvement)

    • Operating model (review and exceptions vs processing)

  • Build a team capable of:

    • Owning end‑to‑end processes

    • Partnering credibly with Commercial and Technology

    • Supporting scale, acquisition and complexity

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CPA), typically 5+ PQE

  • Background in:

    • Big 4 audit or accounting advisory (FRS / IFRS 15 exposure essential), and/or

    • SaaS / recurring revenue controllership or transformation roles

  • Strong understanding of how commercial models translate into revenue and cash

  • Demonstrated experience in:

    • Finance transformation

    • Process re‑engineering

    • Systems‑enabled control design

  • Comfortable operating as a change leader and design authority, not just a reviewer

  • Able to communicate credibly with auditors, senior finance leadership and non‑finance stakeholders
