Data Engineer
Location: Limerick — onsite or hybrid

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our analytics team. We're building a Unified data platform that brings together data from our core business systems — CRM, ERP, and internal engineering tools — into a governed, layered data lake. This is an opportunity to contribute to the design and build out of our Data platform using the latest technology advancements and methodologies.

What you'll work on

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines ELT processes using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Streaming Solutions, and other Azure services.

  • Build and maintain a layered transformation project — raw data through cleaned staging models into a dimensional model — following standard dimensional modelling practices, including history-tracking techniques applied selectively where business need calls for it.

  • Migrate a set of legacy reports' existing transformation logic into the new framework, validating each against current output before cutover.

  • Build and maintain the ingestion pipelines that land raw data from our business systems into the data lake — extraction logic, incremental/CDC handling, schema drift, and retries — using either managed connectors or custom code.

  • Build and maintain orchestration workflows that sequence data extraction from multiple business systems through cleaning and modelling layers.

  • Work within our Azure DevOps CI/CD setup: repositories, branch policies, pipelines, and environment promotion.

  • Partner with the BI/analytics team on how curated data feeds dashboards and reports, and help track which reports depend on which models.

  • Apply data quality tests and keep model documentation and grain definitions current.

  • Watch for performance issues on the underlying platform and flag them early.

What we're looking for

Must-have

  • 5+ years hands-on experience with a SQL-based transformation framework (e.g. dbt or similar) building layered models (staging → marts).

  • Strong SQL — comfortable with CTEs, window functions, and dimensional modeling patterns (facts, dimensions, surrogate keys, slowly changing dimensions).

  • Experience building data ingestion/extraction pipelines from APIs or databases (custom code, managed connectors, or CDC tooling).

  • Experience with a cloud data warehouse or lakehouse platform like Databricks, Microsoft  Fabric.

  • Experience with a workflow orchestration tool.

  • Comfortable working in a Git-based CI/CD workflow.

  • Understanding of layered/medallion data architecture and why cleaning logic belongs in one shared layer, not duplicated per downstream consumer.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with a BI/visualization tool from the data-provider side.

  • Exposure to CRM or ERP systems as data sources.

  • Python, for orchestration/ingestion code beyond SQL.

  • Experience migrating legacy ETL (stored procedures, scripts, or manual processes) into a modern transformation framework.
