SQL Database Contractor – Data Purge Implementation (6 month contract)

Project Overview:

At AMCS, we are seeking an experienced SQL Database Contractor to design and implement a data purge solution for our Azure SQL Databases. The databases currently store historical operational and transactional data spanning several years, which is impacting performance, maintenance, and storage costs. The solution must also comply with data regulations and governance standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze existing Azure SQL database structures and identify data eligible for purging based on business rules and compliance requirements.

  • Design and implement efficient data purge processes that ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

  • Optimize database performance through indexing, partitioning, and other SQL optimisation techniques.

  • Develop scripts and automation for scheduled purging and archiving where necessary.

  • Ensure compliance with data retention policies, regulatory requirements, and security standards.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to validate purge logic and maintain data integrity.

  • Provide documentation and knowledge transfer at the end of the engagement.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and database optimisation techniques.

  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database administration and performance tuning.

  • Proven track record of implementing data purge or archival solutions in large-scale transactional systems.

  • Familiarity with data governance, compliance, and retention policies.

  • Ability to write efficient stored procedures, scripts, and automation workflows.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills for working with remote teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Azure Data Services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, Elastic database jobs) for automation.

  • Knowledge of partitioning strategies and index management in SQL Server/Azure SQL.

  • Understanding GDPR, HIPAA, or other data compliance frameworks.
