AMCS Route Planner results in executing more orders with the same resources
Waste collection routes for household and commercial waste can be planned 10 to 20% more efficiently. This is apparent from different case studies conducted in Sweden, Ireland and Belgium. The positive outcome is achieved by optimising master routes with AMCS Route Planner and results both in cost savings and executing more orders with the same resources. In addition to this, route optimisation also contributes to improving customer service by informing customers more adequately. Moreover, it also has a positive effect on turnover since any new customers can be scheduled most efficiently in existing routes.
- AMCS Route Planner has the ability to plan thousands and thousands of orders into a new master route both for domestic and commercial waste collection
- The smart optimisation software can handle extreme data volumes for high-density planning and many waste specific planning requirements
- Planning features include amongst others the capacity to carry out periodic master route optimisation with different seasonal plan
- Route planner adds new customers in the most efficient place to the existing master routes
- The solution has improved profitability and customer service, for instance, for AES Ireland resulting in a 15% cost reduction
- Other examples of efficiency improvements include a 5 to 10% increase in bins emptied per hour for SITA Belgium and a 10% reduction in a number of routes for Ragn-Sells Sweden
Powerful state-of-the-art optimisation of master routes
Providing the ability to plan thousands and thousands of orders into a new master route, and at the same time handling extreme data volumes for high-density planning and many waste specific planning requirements. With this AMCS Route Planner is a very powerful state-of-the-art optimisation system for both domestic and commercial waste routes. The algorithms performing the routes optimisation are tailored specifically for the waste management industry.
The smart optimisation software provides companies with a series of planning features, for instance, to carry out periodic master route optimisation with different seasonal plans, and efficiently insert new customers into the existing master plans and deliver sequence optimisation and geocoding. Other features are to deliver order pricing and time slotting during order and planning based on fixed visit patterns with permission to move schedules between days
Smart optimisation software contributes to superior efficiency
With the extensive package of features, the optimisation solution contributes to superior efficiency through periodic master route optimisation and optimal management of customer churn. It transforms difficulties handling complex business rules and huge data volumes into competitive advantages. Companies will gain valuable process optimisation and standardisation.
Waste collection companies with AMCS Route Planner also profit from other benefits such as a 5 to 25% reduction in the number of vehicles and/or driver shifts, 5 to 30% reduction in the number of miles, driving time and CO2 emission and 25-90% reduction in time spent per route optimisation. Recent examples of efficiency improvements from companies include a 5 to 10% increase in bins emptied per hour for SITA Belgium, a 10% reduction in a number of routes for Ragn-Sells Sweden and a 15% reduction in cost per lift for AES Ireland.

Case AES Ireland
AES Ireland uses Route Planner to optimise master routes both for household and commercial waste collection. Before, the leading provider of waste management and recycling services in Ireland never created new master plans, appears from the explanation of Darren Sadler, Transport & Logistics Manager at AES. “The routes were planned by the drivers, based on local knowledge. Consequently, the routes were somewhat inefficient and very difficult to execute for temporary drivers, who often missed bins."
According to him, optimising service days was crucial in order to achieve the best results, and, learn from mistakes. ”The system has improved profitability and customer service greatly”, Sadler says. “This resulted not only in a reduction of approximately 15% in costs per lift but also in a 100% elimination of ad hoc routes for collecting missed bins which are the most expensive routes. Because the number of missed bins have been reduced, in addition to that, with AMCS Route Planner customer service is improved. According to the case study AES now is also able to take on a great number of new customers with existing vehicles and without additional investments in both the existing fleet and workforce, like planners and drivers.
AMCS Route Planner is part of AMCS' Intelligent Optimisation solution offering, one of the six solutions of AMCS Platform. The AMCS Platform offers a fully integrated and end-to-end portfolio of solutions to manage the waste and recycling lifecycle. Solutions include Enterprise Management, Intelligent Optimisation, Mobile Workforce, Vehicle Technology, Digital Engagement and AMCS Analytics. These industry-specific solutions are developed to support the AMCS Platform strategy focussing on driving revenue growth, margin expansion, operational efficiency and sustainability. AMCS lives up to those words with a product and development team of around 200 people, currently investing 20% of overall turnover in product development.
AMCS Intelligent Optimisation is also available for legacy software customers
AMCS Intelligent Optimisation is one of the six solutions of AMCS Platform. Each of the six solutions seamlessly fit like a jigsaw puzzle into each other, forming the unique end-to-end integrated SaaS solution for the waste and recycling industry. However, solutions like Intelligent (route) Optimisation, the AMCS Customer Portal and Mobile Workforce are also integrated into existing legacy software. This way all AMCS customers benefit from the innovative software solutions of AMCS Group.
