The official opening of the new facility and R&D centre comes on the back of the AMCS Group's recent successful acquisition of UK-based software services provider, The Solution Works, and is strongly aligned with the company's global expansion strategy. The new roles created as part of the company's international expansion will be available in areas such as software development, software support, project management and sales and marketing.

Established in 2003, AMCS is a recognised leader in the supply of IT, management and tracking solutions for the recycling and environmental management sectors. Its "pay-by-weight" and on-vehicle technology has become the global standard in the industry, helping significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and encouraging more recycling.

Speaking at the official opening, Jimmy Martin, CEO of AMCS, said, "The launch of our new research and development centre highlights our commitment to expanding our servicing capabilities in order to meet the ever changing needs of our clients. In the last two years we have invested approximately €3 million in Research and Development. We will continue to develop innovative and integrated end-to-end software and hardware systems that maximise efficiencies and profitability for our clients and helps them meet their recycling targets.

In Ireland alone, AMCS provides measurement and billing solutions for over 1 million households. In the last two years, with the highly valued support of Enterprise Ireland we have significantly expanded our presence in Continental Europe, the UK and the USA creating over 30 new jobs within the company. We believe our unique technology and expertise puts us in an ideal position to become an industry leader, not only in our existing markets but across Europe and the USA."

Addressing attendees at the official opening, Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan T.D. spoke about the Government's continued commitment to creating jobs and strengthening the economy. "This Government will be judged on its economic record - the delivery of growth and the creation of jobs. I want to assure you that the Government will work hard to ensure that the conditions are right to facilitate growth, to allow businesses such as AMCS to expand, develop and create the jobs which will get our people, and our economy, working again" he said.

AMCS currently employs 65 people and in addition to its Limerick headquarters has offices in the UK, USA and Sweden and will open an office in France in 2012.

<a10:updated>2012-01-20T11:30:00Z</a10:updated>

US local authority seeing the benefits of AMCS's RFID technology.

AMCS's RFID technologies have brought large cost and time savings to a US local authority.

As a major user of AMCS Group solutions, Thorntons Recycling are in many ways a perfect illustration of significant changes in the Group in 2011, and the possibilities now open to the recycling and waste management industry. Like many companies in Ireland, Thorntons have been successfully using the software system as their main customer database and operational job management, weighing and invoicing solution. Supported by the development team out of Glasgow, the solution has grown with Thorntons since it was first adopted back in 2004. Independently of this, Thorntons also recently selected AMCS on-vehicle computer, weighing and RFID technology as the best solution for their REL collection activities. Then, earlier this year, AMCS Group acquired the company providing the software solution, and thus became the complete end-to-end software solutions provider to the industry, covering everything from bin chips to batch invoicing.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jimmy Martin, CEO of AMCS, said: "The acquisition, which is a first for AMCS, is a major milestone in the international expansion and development of the company. The Solution Works has an impressive track-record and experience in software development and deployment. The core technology of TSW – the Elemos / Wims software, is the leading solution in our vertical market. The acquisition will significantly enhance our capabilities to develop innovative and integrated end-to-end software and hardware systems that maximise efficiencies and profitability for our clients and help them meet their recycling targets."

In 2009, AMCS raised over €5 million in equity funding from the Ulster Bank Diageo Venture Fund, managed by NCB Ventures and UK-based cleantech fund, WHEB Ventures. It is the first company supported by the Ulster Bank Diageo Venture Fund to complete a bolt-on acquisition.

"The 2009 funding has enabled AMCS expand in Continental Europe, the UK and the USA. Our presence in these overseas markets has continued to grow with more than 50% of our €7 million turnover from 2010 coming from export markets, in comparison to 20% in 2009. In the last two years we have also created some 30 new jobs in the company and are on track to almost double our turnover," said Martin.

AMCS currently employs 65 people and in addition to its Limerick headquarters has offices in the UK, USA and Sweden and will open an office in France in 2012.. The company will be announcing a number of new product launches and major contract wins in the coming weeks and months, many of which have been developed through the combined expertise of AMCS and TSW.

<a10:updated>2011-11-18T12:00:00Z</a10:updated>

"Measure, monitor and optimise collections" – Recycling and Waste World

View Recycling and Waste World ‘Weighing' feature with input from AMCS Group's expertise.
